Itinerary

Day 1Nairobi → Mt. Ololokwe

Depart Nairobi early and travel north along the A2 highway via Nanyuki, Isiolo, and Archer’s Post. Continue toward Ololokwe, where you turn off toward the Sebache campsite. Arrive in the late afternoon and settle into camp at the foot of the Mt. Ololokwe. Easy day to ease into the northern territory.

Day 2Sebache → Ngurunit

Depart Ololokwe and head north toward Losai Wilderness Area, traversing open plains and dramatic rocky inselbergs. You will pass Merille and Turn towards Ndoto Mountains at Laisamis on your way to Ngurunit. Losai stretches along this road all the way to Ngurunit.

Although not a wildlife-rich area, Losai offers exceptional landscapes and desert scenery before arriving in Ngurunit by afternoon.

Route Overview

Drive from Ngurunit via South Horr and Ascend from the semi-desert into the cool highlands of Mount Kulal. The route climbs gradually into cedar forests and offers impressive views over the Turkana Basin.

Descend from the cool forests of Kulal into the volcanic desert landscape surrounding Lake Turkana, arriving in Loiyangalani by mid-day.

Drive along wild desert tracks from Loiyangalani northwards via North Horr, then follow the lakeshore corridor into Sibiloi National Park, one of Kenya’s most remote wilderness destinations.

Return south via the North Horr region and continue to the Kalacha Oasis. The settlement sits at the edge of the Chalbi Desert and is known for its natural springs and doum palm groves.
